Hawthorn veteran Chad Wingard has torn his Achilles, with the forward now facing up to a year on the sidelines.
Wingard came from the ground in the opening minutes of Sunday’s win over the Western Bulldogs after collapsing to the ground and being carried off the field.
Foxfooty.com.au has confirmed AFL Media’s report the 30-year-old met with a specialist on Monday and is set to undergo surgery on the injury, which has a recovery timeline of between nine and 12 months.

Wingard’s injury comes as the two-time All-Australian was making a late run at a fresh contract beyond 2023.
He moved to Hawthorn from Port Adelaide at the close of 2018, having been the Power’s leading goalkicker in two seasons and a best and fairest winner in 2015.
Hawks coach Sam Mitchell said the club was “feeling for Chad” after Sunday’s win.
Wingard has struggled to string together consistent runs of football during his five seasons at Hawthorn, with injury often wreaking havoc on his consistency.
BRISBANE duo Jack Gunston and Daniel Rich may have played their last games in 2023 after suffering injury blows.
Gunston took no further part in the win over Adelaide after his leg got awkwardly trapped in a tackle.
Assisted from the field by medical staff, Gunston had returned to the bench strapped up and appeared as if he wanted to play on.
But the call was made at half time to sub the veteran forward.
In a statement, the club confirmed Gunston would play no further part in the home and away season, and was now racing to be fit in time for finals.
“Scans on Monday showed Gunston sustained a MCL strain of his left knee,” they revealed.
“The club will further assess the forward’s injury to determine the best course of action for a possible return during the finals.”
Rich meantime injured his hamstring while playing in the VFL with scans confirming his pre-finals setback.
“The scans confirmed a hamstring strain for the defender who is set to be sidelined for up to four weeks,” they said.
Sitting on 60 premiership points, Brisbane are assured of a top-four finish and the double chance that comes with it, given fifth place Carlton sits on 50 points with just two games to play.
