Late mail: Roosters superstar Joseph Manu and Daniel Tupou have both been ruled out of Friday’s blockbuster final-round clash with the Rabbitohs in a huge blow to his side’s hopes of making the top eight. While skipper James Tedesco has been cleared to return from a head knock, Manu won’t play after he suffered a grade one hamstring strain in last week’s win over the Wests Tigers. Tupou has also been ruled out with a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury sustained at training. Fetalaiga Pauga comes into the starting line-up to replace the Tongan International on the wing. Losing the Golden Boot winner Manu is a massive setback given they must win and hope results go their way if they are to have any chance of sneaking into the top eight, but Roosters coach Trent Robinson says Manu is available should they make the finals. “He’s pretty good. He ran the AlterG the other day, but I don’t think he’ll get there,” Robinson said, revealing the club made the decision on Wednesday to rule Manu out.
“It’s too short. I was probably concerned after the game because as soon as you come off with a hammy injury it’s unlikely that you’re going to come through and get in to the game.
“He won’t play.” Corey Allan will replace him at right centre. The Roosters are in 10th spot on the NRL ladder, but equal on 30 points with the Rabbitohs, who are currently in eighth spot, and the Cowboys, who play the Panthers. The winner of the clash between the Roosters and South Sydney will a spot in the top eight and the Cowboys could also take the spot of the Raiders, who are seventh, with a win, should Canberra lose to the Sharks on Sunday afternoon.
